KNUT Treasurer John Matiangai has declined to accept a nomination to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission by COTU.
He cited legal challenges and personal reason for the decision.
a?Due to personal reasons, legal challenges and the current legislation that entrenches the position of SRC Commissioners as a full time job and considering the fact that I am also a full-time employee of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), then this leaves me with only one option of regrettably declining to take up the nomination to this position,a? Matiangai said in a letter addressed to COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.
He copied the letter dated April 23 to the Chief of Staff and Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua. Atwoli had forwarded Matiangaias name to Kinyua on March 8.
The KNUT Treasurer said he was thankful for the nomination but was content with championing the rights of workers in his current capacity at the union.
a?I will be ready to serve in any other such capacity in future,a? he said.
