PRESS STATEMENT ON THE MBAGATHI HOSPITAL MATERNITY WING ON 23TH MAY 2018.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses wish to inform the members of the public, patients, mothers and all health workers that the Maternity Wing of Mbagathi Sub county Hospital has been condemned by the County Engineer Roads and Public Works of Nairobi as unfit for occupation.
The union wish to state that on Tuesday night owing to the prominent cracks in the building of the maternity wing fire broke out occasioned by the leakages in the cracks that have compromised the structural stability of the building.
In accordance with the Occupation Safety and Health Act, we ask our members and all health workers to vacate the building with immediate effect
We urgently ask the Nairobi County Government to evacuate the only remaining unit, the newborn unit from the maternity wing. The County Administration is hereby notified that the union shall take legal action incase they fail to act swiftly to protect live and property as provided in the law and expected of a government.
